1st Thessalonians

1st and 2nd Thessalonians are books which primarily deal with the return of our Savior Jesus Christ and the days and events leading up to His return. Secondarily, they deal with Christian conduct and attitudes in view of Christ’s return.

Paul knew of the jealous hatred of the Jews in Thessalonica and Berea, having been chased out of both cities by the Jews of Thessalonica; from there he went to Athens. Even though Paul’s stay in Thessalonica was short, he became close to the flock of believers and was eager to find out how they prospered under the continual pressure of their Jewish persecutors.

The date of writing was somewhere in early 51AD; within 20 years of Christ’s resurrection. It was most likely delivered by an anonymous brother and news from the Thessalonians most likely came back to Paul in the same way.
