1st Timothy

Paul writes Timothy from Macedonia in the fall of 63AD. Paul had discovered that Ephesus was a city of false teachings. Earlier, he had specifically warned the Ephesian elders of these very things. He was delayed in Macedonia and felt the need to give Timothy encouragement and authorize him to oversee the church in Ephesus. The purposes of 1st Timothy are to give personal instruction and encouragement to Timothy, to establish a working structure for the church, and to correct certain doctrinal disorders.
