2nd Peter

The exact date this epistle was written is uncertain. Of all the general epistles, 2nd Peter comes the closest to the full meaning of the term, General, than any of the others. It seems likely that the specific recipients of this epistle included the churches to whom Peter had addressed in his first epistle; although it likely contained a much larger audience.

Because of the reference to his impending death in 1:14 its assumed that it is the immediate occasion for the writing of this epistle. The fact that Peter died a violent death under persecution might further indicate that his message was the result of universal persecution. It also appears that many false teachers were leading many astray from the truth in Christ.
