The book of Joel was possibly written during the early times of the prophets; around 850-775 BC. Tyre, Zidon, and Egypt are described as Israel’s chief enemies.
A terrible plague of locust had just taken place in the land and its God’s judgment. Joel urges the people to call on the Lord and turn back to Him. However, this locust plague is shown to be a foreshadowing of the Lord’s Day when the Gentiles will be judged and Israel will finally get blessed.
