Joshua

The book of Joshua begins before Israel was a nation and had their own land; so as Joshua opens, they are not yet in the promised land. They are within sight of the land and Joshua has been anointed by the Lord to be Moses’ successor. Moses had given them final instructions before crossing over Jordan. The people with Joshua were either born in the wilderness or were very young when they came out of Egypt; their rebellious fathers had died in the wilderness. This second generation had spent 40 years waiting for the day when they could enter into the Promised Land. Under the leadership of Joshua, the children of Israel will finally take the land promised to Abraham.
